School Governors
What do school governors do?
They are responsible for:
- Ensuring clear vision and ethos for the school
- Supporting the school’s culture and values
- Working in partnership with the Headteacher to establish the strategic direction for the school
- Holding the school leadership to account for implementation of strategy
- Promoting high standards of educational achievement
- Ensuring the school’s resources are used to maximum impact
- Overseeing its financial performance
Who are they?
At St Mary & St John the Governing Body has 14 members:
- Eight Foundation Governors, including the Vicar of Cowley St John and seven others (three appointed by the Diocese and four appointed by the Parish)
- Two Staff Governors, including the Headteacher and one other member of staff (elected by the staff team)
- Three Parent Governors (elected by parents/carers)
- One Local Authority Governor (nominated by the LA)
